Manual Driving Lessons in Hull
Learn to drive a manual car in Hull, Hessle and Cottingham. £41 per hour, or less with a lesson package.
Why learn in a manual?
When you pass your test in a manual car, your licence lets you drive both manual and automatic cars. Pass in an automatic and you can only drive automatics. You'd need to take another test to drive a manual.
Manual is a good choice if you:
- want the full licence and the most choice of cars to buy, borrow or hire
- may need to drive a manual family car, work van or vehicle abroad
- are happy to spend a little extra time mastering the clutch and gears
What you'll learn
On top of everything every driver needs, manual lessons cover the car control skills specific to gears:
- clutch control, moving off and stopping smoothly
- choosing and changing gears, including on hills and at junctions
- hill starts and slow-speed control for manoeuvres
We also prepare you for each part of the practical test: the eyesight check, "show me, tell me" vehicle safety questions, general driving, a reversing manoeuvre and about 20 minutes of independent driving.

Questions learners ask
How many lessons will I need?
Everyone learns at a different pace. The DVSA says the average learner needs about 45 hours of lessons with an instructor, plus 22 hours of private practice. After your first lesson we'll give you an honest idea of how many you're likely to need.
Can I switch to automatic later?
Yes. If you find gears hard going, you can switch to automatic lessons at any point, and the price per hour is the same. Bear in mind that an automatic pass only covers automatic cars.
What do I need for my first lesson?
Your valid provisional driving licence, and your glasses or contact lenses if you need them for driving. You must be able to read a number plate from 20 metres.
Which areas do you cover?
Hull, Hessle and Cottingham. Lessons start and finish at a pick-up point we agree with you.
What if I need to cancel?
