Automatic Driving Lessons in Hull
Learn to drive without a clutch or gears in Hull, Hessle and Cottingham. £41 per hour, the same price as manual.
Why learn in an automatic?
Automatic cars change gear for you, so there's no clutch to stall and no gear stick. Automatic lessons are a popular choice if you:
- feel nervous about driving, or found the clutch difficult in previous lessons
- only plan to drive automatic cars
- want to drive an electric or hybrid car, which are almost all automatic
- want to focus fully on the road while you're learning
Your licence will only cover automatic cars. If you think you might ever need to drive a manual, consider manual lessons instead.
What you'll learn
- smooth control of the accelerator and brake, including at slow speeds and on hills
- using the gear selector (drive, reverse, neutral and park) and the parking brake correctly
- junctions, roundabouts, dual carriageways and town driving around Hull
We also prepare you for each part of the practical test: the eyesight check, "show me, tell me" vehicle safety questions, general driving, a reversing manoeuvre and about 20 minutes of independent driving.
Automatic lesson prices

Questions learners ask
Is automatic easier to learn?
With no clutch to control and no gears to change, there's less to think about at the same time. That gives you more attention for observation, road positioning and spotting hazards. You still need to reach the same standard to pass.
Can I drive a manual car after passing in an automatic?
No. An automatic pass only covers automatic cars. To drive a manual, you'd need to pass a test in a manual car. If you want both, take manual lessons.
I've had manual lessons before. Can I switch?
Yes. Your experience still counts: observation, road positioning and planning all carry over. Tell us about it in your enquiry and we'll pick up from where you are.
What do I need for my first lesson?
Your valid provisional driving licence, and your glasses or contact lenses if you need them for driving. You must be able to read a number plate from 20 metres.
Which areas do you cover?
Hull, Hessle and Cottingham. Lessons start and finish at a pick-up point we agree with you.
